This week in Foggy Bottom: the new anti-university group has a formal coming out at the the FBA, FoBo wanted Mara overwhelmingly but got Orange instead, plans for the new West End library and firehouse revealed, Foggy Bottom: undead zone?, Charlie Sheen‘s not the only pampered celebrity, and GW athletic director Karl Hobbs gets the boot gets fired leaves gets canned ugh, he’s just gone, okay?

The District-Wide Coalition of University Neighbors, the controversial new anti-university group, was introduced to the Foggy Bottom Association this week.  Of course, Asher Corson, President of the FBA is also a leader of DCUN.   Corson stressed to Vox that DCUN’s not anti-student.  I suppose that DCUN believes that its goals of a technical ghetto-ization of a largely non-voting (in DC, at least) group of people is good for students.  But don’t just take my word for it, read about the DCUN straight from the horse’s mouth here and here.

And while it may not be likely that too many G-dubbers voted in this week’s council-member-at-large election (which only had a few hiccups), the rest of Ward 2 showed up to pick Patrick Mara as their overwhelming favorite.  Think it was Mara’s strict “no new taxes” stance that appealed to Foggy Bottom, or something else?  Could be, as Sekou Biddle (also anti-tax hike) came in third, right behind Bryan Weaver — arguably the best voice for smart urbanism in the District.  Of course, Orange won anyway.

At this week’s ANC meeting, residents got a peek at the plans for the new West End Library and Firehouse projects. I’ve only got 3 comments: funny to anyone else that market rate housing will be above the library while affordable housing will be above the firehouse? What the hell is “squash on fire”? And of course: stay glassy, DC.

CityPaper picked up on our scoop-day-doop that local Mexican eatery The Burro closed up shop forever.  Though, they refer to FoBo as a dead zone for quick, cheap, good food.  I disagree, of course — FoBoGro, Carvings, Lindy’s, Potbelly’s, Pita Pit and Perfect Pita are all great.  Not to mention Foggy Bottom is a hotbed of food truck activity.  Does that make us an undead zone?

Charlie Sheen isn’t the only non-political big-wig getting the Ritzy treatment from from MPD.  Charlie Sheen, Charlie Sheen, Charlie Sheen.  (Sorry readers, just trying to improve our page ranking here.)

While FoBoBlo seemed to be the first (non-Twitter) source of news that GW’s athletics director, Karl Hobbs was on his way out, other outlets spent time scrambling and correcting themselves (sometimes without proper use of strike-through, a highest order blogging sin!) over whether he resigned or was canned.  While some were glad to see him go, others think he deserved at least one more year.  (Ed. note: I was going to link to the GW Hatchet post that had written various outlets had posted premature information the nature of Hobb’s departure — but they’ve cut that part out too.  Without strike-throughs, again. WTF guys.  It’s still on Twitter though.)
